Get a grip on your kapten without delay by following these top time-saving tips: Kapten Button Layout: The Kapten has 11 buttons on the entire unit and one switch. Top spine of unit Key lock switch: To the right the unit is locked and when to the left the unit is unlocked Also on the top spine: USB Mini connector port Right side spine: Top button: Volume up Bottom button: volume down Left side spine: 2.5 mm earphone/external microphone cable Front Facing panel: The front facing panel: The front facing panel has 9 buttons The top most button is a five way omni directional button. Top, Bottom, left, right and K Button. Top button: Mute on/off voice or MP3 Player, FM radio Bottom Button: Stop button, Press once to wake up or turn on, or press and hold to turn off, also serves as button to stop any function Right button: Next direction during navigation Left Button: previous direction during navigation Middle button, K Button: to KTag a location for future use Series of thre buttons below five way omni directional button Left most, MP3 button: Turn on/off MP3 player Middle button, GPS button: Turn on/off GPS Right most, FM Button: Turn on/off FM radio Single button at bottom: Bluetooth: turn on/off Bluetooth for use with phone or headset Navigating for the 1st time Press the GPS button The internal voice will ask what method of transportation would you be using State your choice after the BEEP: Pedestrian, Bicycle, Car You will next be prompted to choose one of the following options: “new address” You will then be prompted to provide the name of the State, City, Street name, numerical address. Once confirming each of these steps, if the Kapten has a GPS signal, it will begin the route calculation. The K button flashes rapidly while your itinerary is being worked out Once you have had the route calculated, and you begin your navigation, the K button starts to flash slowly. And you’re off!! It is important to remember when communicating with the Kapten, always wait for the BEEP before stating your selection. Your 1st K tag You’re standing in front of your dream store, a hip bar… You want to save this location • Briefly press the K button. Important! The GPS signal must be active, (if active the K light will be flashing slowly). The Kapten says: "do you want to create a KTag? " Respond after the beep "yes." You will be prompted to record a voice memo which will label your KTag for future use. When finished recording, press the bottom part of the five way omni directional button, the stop button. Connect onto Kapmanager with your kapten to share this hot spot. with Kapmanager at your side Once you have installed the 'kapmanager" software on to your computer, you can: It enables you to: • import and organise your favourite music files • download podcasts free of charge • synchronise your kapten with the www.kapsys.com site to create your zurby profile, share K tags, purchase maps and audio guides • and above all regularly download updates for your kapten (software, ephemerides, speed camera databases, public transport etc.) Give your kapten a boost! To pick up the signal more quickly, connect to Kapmanager once a week to download ephemerides – the last known positions of the satellites that geolocate your position. ! Walk to the beat MP3 • Connect your kapten up to your computer and launch Kapmanager • Download your MP3 files to your kapten • Disconnect your kapten and press the MP3 button • Listen to what the Kapten says, then state your choice after the BEEP FM Radio • Press the FM button • The radio station to which you were last listening comes on • Press the FM button one more time, then state the name of the required station The fundamentals Always wait till after the “BEEP” before speaking Always confirm the question asked by Kapten with “YES” or “NO” To speak, briefly press the button near the microphone Articulate clearly when speaking Top Tips & Advice Switch on briefly press the stop button (1 second) Switch off hold stop button down (3 seconds) Reboot press the 3 buttons: K + GPS + volume (down) all at the same time After releasing the buttons, wait until the transport mode lights stop flashing. Unlock Turn the Lock button to the left "green" position All the buttons on your kapten will unlock. Go even faster • Press the Microphone button, If you already know which menu you want, don’t wait for the list of options. When you’ve pressed the button, state your choice. OR press the K button in the middle of the five way omni directional button when you hear the choice on the menu you wish. Answers in a flash So you have a question? Use “key-words” to get all the answers out of Kapten! Press the microphone button and say the key-word. For example: “Where am I” to find out your location when GPS is activated “Battery level” for your battery status “I need help” to start the interactive tutorial, you are explained in a few minutes how your kapten works “What time is it” for the time “GPS” activates the navigation function “Distance” to find out how far you have left to travel “Arrival time” to find out how much longer your journey will last “Next / Last instruction" to go to the next instruction or hear the last one again “Activate / Deactivate speed cameras” to activate or deactivate speed camera warnings “Stop navigation” to stop the current itinerary “K Tag” to geolocate the position and save it “MP3” or “FM” to activate the MP3 or FM functions “New station” to enter a new radio station “What is it” For an MP3 file: to find out the current title or artist For the radio: to find out the frequency of the current station “Stop music” to stop the current song or the radio “Telephone” to activate the telephone function Key Words: to be given all the key words available on the Kapten Main lights K button When the light is blue: • if it’s flashing rapidly, it’s searching for the GPS signal • if it’s flashing slowly, the GPS signal is active When the light is red: low battery GPS – MP3 – FM & CALL buttons When the light is blue: • if it’s flashing: you can’t use the Menu keys (forward, back, play / pause, stop) • if the light stays on continuously: you can use the Menu keys. By default, when a light is off, it means the function concerned is not activated.
